I turned on the TV and sat on the couch wrapped in a blanket. It was the night before Christmas Eve and Mom had to work late. There was silence all around me except for the slight sound of the falling snow outside and the TV in front of me. I flipped through the channels looking for something to catch my eye. Nothing did. I sighed a huge yawn and stood up to get a snack. I was digging through the cabinet when I heard the man on the TV say something that I couldn’t believe.
“Okay. I know you all know the beautiful young Miss Jordan Taylor. Here we go.” The voice of Dane Benner on the Benner Talk Show. His voice faded in my ears with a slight ringing feeling. That name. Jordan Taylor. I blinked a few times that were more than necessary and went back to the living room. I strained hard to listen closer even though the TV was loud enough that I didn’t have to.
“So, Jordan, how is the newest J.T. album? I’ve heard a lot about it but haven’t actually gotten the chance to hear it for myself, do tell, please?” I instantly recognized the young women sitting in the chair next to Dane Benner.
“Well, I’d definitely have to say that this is by far the best I’ve come up with and there are so many people I want to thank. I just don’t know where to start, really. I’ve always been second best to everyone, mostly my sister, and now I’m the one on top, you know?” Jordan’s voice went up to provoke a question.
“I mean, not that Karrie didn’t…doesn’t…didn’t…deserve it, she just was always getting one up on me, and when I came into the music scene it was like I was doing it all just for her. To be just like her. My mother would have loved that.” It looked like she was lost in a dream for a moment.
“So, Jordan, are you saying the reason for your career is all because of your twin Karrie?” Dane asked in confusion. He was still holding cards in his hand that held the topics of discussion, but I could see that the conversation took on a different direction than he expected.
